Enthusiasm and news that catches fire.

Meaning

The Page of Wands is the youngest court card of Fire and carries its energy in its freshest form: enthusiasm, curiosity, a love of discovery and the urge to get going straight away. As part of your personality, he is the side of you that catches fire for something before knowing how it works, that asks questions, tries things out, fails and starts again. As a person in your life, he can be someone who infects others with ideas without having thought them through yet, often young in years or in experience.

Traditionally the Page is also seen as a messenger, and the message of the Wands is one that catches fire: an offer, an invitation, news that electrifies you. In life the card shows up at fresh starts, in phases of learning, at creative beginnings and wherever you allow yourself to be a beginner. The pyramids behind him are far away, and that doesn’t bother him.

The Page of Wands invites you to take your enthusiasm seriously without overrating it. Let yourself be set alight, and then make sure the flame gets fuel. Ask yourself what you are burning for right now, and whether you are ready to take the unremarkable steps for it too once the first thrill fades.

Advice: Follow your enthusiasm and keep at it.

Reversed

Reversed, enthusiasm turns into flightiness. Ideas are announced and not carried out, promises are lightly given and forgotten, the next project beckons before the current one has taken shape. As a person in your life, this can be someone whose fire spreads quickly and goes out just as quickly, or someone who needs attention and gets it through drama. Bad or delayed news also belongs to this reading.

Turned inwards, the reversed Page shows an enthusiasm that doesn’t dare. You would love to begin something new, but you think you are too old, too inexperienced or too clumsy. Ask yourself who talked you into believing that, and whether that is exactly why the spark is so persistent.

Love and relationships

In love, the Page of Wands shows flirting, infatuation and a playful, curious coming-together. If you are single, someone may coax you out of your shell with charm and high spirits, or you may dare to approach people more openly yourself. In a relationship he brings lightness back: doing things together, silliness, the courage to try something new. The card invites you to show enthusiasm while checking whether commitment is growing alongside the passion.

Work and money

At work, the Page of Wands stands for new impulses, phases of learning, internships, further training and creative offers that appeal to you. Perhaps news reaches you that sets a project rolling, or you get the chance to try your hand at something unfamiliar. With money he shows beginnings rather than returns; enthusiastic plans should have their sums done before you invest. Don’t take inexperience as a shortcoming, but as a reason to ask thorough questions.

As the card of the day

As your card of the day, the Page of Wands invites you to be curious today. Ask a question you wouldn’t usually dare to, try something you have never done before, or listen to an idea before you judge it. Look out for news that makes you sit up. And if you are burning for something, tell someone.

The image

A young figure stands in a glowing orange desert landscape, holding a tall wand upright in both hands. The head is tilted back, the gaze directed up to the tip of the wand, where fresh leaves are sprouting. The figure wears a yellow tunic with black salamanders, an olive-coloured cloak, red hose and boots with flame-shaped cuffs; a red feather on the grey hat looks like a small flame. In the background, three pyramids rise against a pale blue sky. The salamanders, creatures of fire in old tradition, form almost closed circles on the garment, but not quite. The desert is hot and empty, a place for visions, not for harvest. The upward gaze betrays wonder and curiosity.

Questions for you

  • What are you burning for right now, and what have you actually done for it in the past week?
  • Where do you allow yourself to be a beginner, and where do you forbid it?
  • What message or invitation did you last receive that brought you to life?
