Meaning
The Knight of Wands is Fire at full gallop. Where the Page is still marvelling, the Knight is already on his way: impatient, brave, hungry for experience, ready to risk everything as long as it isn’t boring. As part of your personality, he is your ability to throw yourself into something, to sweep people along and to get things going that others only talk about. As a person in your life, he is the one who suddenly turns up, turns everything upside down and is often gone again just as suddenly.
In life the card shows up at departures, journeys, house moves, spontaneous yeses, stormy encounters and in every situation in which speed matters more than care. It shows a force that is infectious but doesn’t stay in one place for long. There is plenty of energy, less stamina; the Knight starts with enthusiasm and needs others to finish things off.
The Knight of Wands invites you to use your fire without letting it run blind. If you ride off, at least know the direction. Ask yourself where your momentum is carrying you and whom you may be leaving behind on the way. Courage is a virtue, recklessness is not. From the saddle the two sometimes look the same.
Advice: Ride off, but know where you are heading.
Reversed
Reversed, speed becomes impatience and courage becomes recklessness. Projects are started and abandoned, promises broken, conflicts picked because standing still seems unbearable. As a person in your life, the reversed Knight can be someone who promises a lot and delivers little, who stirs up drama and shies away from responsibility. Sometimes the card also shows a horse that rears up and gets nowhere: journeys that are cancelled, plans that stall, anger with no outlet.
Turned inwards, it is about a restlessness that is riding away from something. Ask yourself whether your urge to keep moving is really curiosity, or the avoidance of something that looms too large when you stand still.
Love and relationships
In love, the Knight of Wands stands for stormy passion that is exciting and has yet to prove it can last. If you are single, you may meet someone who sweeps you off your feet and calls into question everything you have been looking for until now. In a relationship he brings the fire back: spontaneity, travel, erotic energy, sometimes arguments too. The card invites you to enjoy the intensity while watching whether it also lasts through the quiet moments.
Work and money
At work, bold steps are on the cards: a change of job, starting a business, a business trip, a fast-paced project with an open outcome. The Knight of Wands shows that determination moves more now than weighing things up, as long as someone keeps an overview. With money, he advises caution with snap decisions; enthusiasm is no substitute for scrutiny, and an impulse purchase or a risky commitment is hard to take back. Use the momentum, but ask to see the figures.
As the card of the day
As your card of the day, the Knight of Wands invites you to act decisively today and not to hang about. Raise the matter you have been putting off, set off, say yes. At the same time, watch your pace in dealing with others: not everyone can keep up so quickly. A quick glance in the rear-view mirror does no harm.
The image
A knight in silver armour sits on a reddish-brown horse that rears up on its hind legs and surges to the left. Over his armour he wears a yellow tunic with black salamanders, a red plume shaped like flames bobs on his helmet, and red, flame-like strips of fabric flicker on his arms and back as well. In his right hand he holds a wand with fresh leaves, in his left the reins. His face beneath the open visor looks young and alert. The ground is orange, and in the distance three pyramids stand under a pale blue sky. The salamanders on the tunic form open arcs here, and the horse’s mane is tousled as if it had just charged off. Everything about this figure is forward movement; nothing speaks of arriving.
