Alert, curious, full of questions.

Meaning

The Page of Swords is the alert mind. Curiosity, a gift for observation, a love of asking questions and of debating belong to him, as does the restlessness that comes when many thoughts knock at once. As the first court card of the Swords, he shows the element of Air in its youngest form: thinking is quick and agile, but still without much experience. He tries things out, listens, interrupts, learns.

As a part of your personality, you meet him when you throw yourself into a new subject, when you suddenly question everything, or when you sense that you should be on your guard because something is not right. As someone around you, he can be a young person who observes sharply and asks awkward questions, or someone who brings you news that forces you to think. Rumours and news belong to his world too.

The Page of Swords invites you to take your curiosity seriously and to sharpen it. Observe closely before you judge. Ask the question everyone avoids. Learn what has interested you for a long time. And make sure that agility does not turn into flightiness: you hold a sword with both hands, otherwise it flies away.

Advice: Stay alert and keep asking.

Reversed

Reversed, alertness becomes mistrust and curiosity becomes distraction. You jump from idea to idea, start a lot, finish little and lose yourself in information that does you no good. The reversed card often shows up in gossip too: you speak before you have thought, pass on things that were not meant for others, or hit someone with a sharp remark when you never meant to hurt them.

As someone around you, the reversed Page can be a person who pumps you for information, spreads rumours or leads you astray with half-knowledge. The card invites you to focus your attention: one subject instead of ten, finishing one conversation instead of starting three, and taking a breath before you speak.

Love and relationships

In love the Page of Swords shows clever conversations, playful verbal sparring and getting to know each other through the head. But he can also mean a certain distance: someone observes and tests before opening up. In a partnership he invites you to be curious about each other instead of believing you already know each other. If you are single, he often stands for a contact that starts out interesting, but where it still remains to be seen whether there is more to it.

Work and money

At work the Page of Swords stands for research, learning, checking and questioning. It is a good time for further training, for analysing data and for putting assumptions on the table that no one has checked in ages. As a person he can be a young colleague or a sharp-eyed intern. With money, he advises you to inform yourself thoroughly before you get involved in anything.

As the card of the day

Today it is worth looking closely and asking questions. Read something that really interests you, listen in a conversation before you answer, and make a note of what strikes you. Take the news critically, but not suspiciously. If you have an idea, write it down instead of immediately talking it to death or announcing it.

The image

A young figure stands on a green hill, holding a sword upright with both hands. The Page wears a violet-red tunic over a yellow undergarment, yellow hose and red boots. The body is turned to the right, while the head looks alertly to the left, hair blowing in the wind. Behind the figure grey clouds pile up against a pale blue sky, and at the top left a flock of small birds is flying. At the left edge trees bend in the wind; on the right lies a plain with a stretch of water. The stance is ready but not yet decided: the gaze points in a different direction from the body. The wind, the birds and the clouds are air in motion, the element of the Swords in its young, curious form.

Questions for you

  • What question have you been asking yourself for a while without saying it out loud?
  • Where are you currently mistaking being informed for understanding?
  • Which thought would you like to think through to the end today instead of jumping to the next one?
