A feeling makes itself known, playful and surprising.

Meaning

The Page of Cups stands for a feeling that makes itself known anew, unguarded and a little playful. As part of your personality, he is the side of you that can marvel, that has ideas before the mind checks them, and that dares to be in love, moved or sad without hiding it. As a person in your life, he may be a young person who confides something in you, or someone with a gentle, intuitive manner who reminds you that not everything needs to be explained.

In the sequence of the court cards, the Page is the beginning: water that does not yet know where it wants to flow. The card turns up when a message with emotional content arrives, a love letter, a confession, an apology, or when a creative impulse appears out of nowhere. It also appears when you are learning something new and feel like a beginner again.

The invitation is to take the fish seriously. What surfaces from the depths is rarely a coincidence. Ask yourself which stirring you recently dismissed as silly, and whether it might have been a message after all. You don't have to understand everything straight away. Looking is enough.

Advice: Take the message of your heart seriously.

Reversed

Reversed, playfulness tips over into immaturity. Feelings are worn on the sleeve but not carried through; moods change, promises are forgotten, and anyone who relies on the Page is left waiting. The card can also show an escape into daydreams: you picture things instead of acting, or withdraw in a huff at every criticism. As a person in your life, this is someone who flatters you and yet is not reliable.

Turned inwards, it shows a sensitivity that no longer dares to show itself. You once embarrassed yourself with an openly shown feeling and have left the fish in the cup ever since. Ask yourself whether this caution still protects you or merely prevents something new from beginning.

Love and relationships

In love, the Page of Cups shows a tender approach: a flirtation, a first message, a confession that took courage. If you are single, he can herald an interest that is still uncertain and therefore especially genuine. In a relationship he reminds you to send each other little signs again, to share silly moments and not to talk only about grown-up matters. Accept what is quietly offered to you.

Work and money

At work, the Page of Cups brings ideas that have not yet been costed but carry enthusiasm: a creative idea, an offer that surprises you, an internship or an apprenticeship in a field that moves you. Let the idea grow before you judge it. With money, the card advises against deciding on a whim; enthusiasm is a good start, and checking things with a cool head is part of it too.

As the card of the day

As the card of the day, the Page of Cups invites you to be curious today. Pay attention to ideas, messages and stirrings of feeling that crop up unexpectedly, and note them down rather than judging them. Allow yourself a bit of silliness today, a song, a little sketch, a kind message to someone. Today, something may rise up from the depths.

The image

A young person stands on the shore in front of a choppy blue sea, holding in the right hand a golden cup from which a blue fish peeps out. The figure looks at the fish, smiling slightly, the other hand resting casually on the hip. The figure wears a blue tunic patterned with red water-lily blossoms, pink puffed sleeves and tights, brown boots and a blue cap with a long scarf falling around the neck, as well as a feather. The sky is a greyish beige without any detail, the ground yellow sand. The fish in the cup is the surprise from the depths: an idea, a feeling, a message nobody expected. The blossoms on the garment show that something is coming into bloom here; the waves in the background stand for feeling, which is always in motion.

Questions for you

  • Which stirring did I recently dismiss as unimportant, even though it meant something?
  • Where do I still allow myself to be a beginner and to marvel?
  • Who around me is bringing me a message right now that I have not yet taken seriously?
